What Is Web Security?
Today on the Internet we face all types of web security breeches. There are web predators that make it their business to compromise one’s experience of safely browsing the web. One of the obvious ways to protect your computer is to have good protective software.You should never take for granted that your computer is safe from hackers or malware. The first thing is you want to make sure you have a firewall on your computer. A firewall is a gateway you install on your computer that prevents outsiders from accessing your computer. It is a protective barrier from outside computer predators. What is does is limit access between networks based on their security policies. Some firewalls are better than others. Some fast Internet connections such as DSL also have network barrier devices in the modem that serve as a firewall. The firewall works like a filter allowing permitted information in and flagging and denying access to that which is not. If some information is flagged then the firewall denies access and in many cases lets you know that some information that is not allowed is trying to get in. Without a firewall you become a sitting duck for anyone to access your computer or your information. Another issue with web security is your IP address. Ones IP address is public. The IP address or Internet protocol address is a unique address by which it communicates with other computers on a network. Each time you access the Internet your IP changes, but there are times like when you are on a fixed Internet connection, cable, ADSL or fixed line then it doesn’t. The IP address allows crackers (unscrupulous persons who look for ways to enter your computer system) to share with other crackers. This includes private data. There is software for anonymous surfing to protect your IP address from this kind of attack. It is called Anonymous IP Software. It changes your IP address to an anonymous proxy server address so you can surf the web in privacy. A lot of the anonymous proxy software has a ghost feature, which makes all of your web activities invisible to other computers. Another issue with web security is WiFi hackers. What they do is set up fake access points for computer users to grab things like credit card information. There is software that you can download to protect your wireless system from these hackers. You download and install the software according to the instructions. Another way is to make sure all your information is encrypted. Encryption in short means your information is encoded so no one but your computer can read or access it. There is software that is available for that as well. It may be included with other protective software or alone. The last topic I will hit on is anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Today you can get one of many, many types of anti-virus and anti-spyware software. This is an essential on today’s computer. New malware is coming out even as I write this article. You have to have some sort of protection against it. Viruses and spyware can also breech security. Make sure whatever protective software you choose that it is the most up to date version, with updates available to meet the ever-changing influx of new malware that pops up. The best web security are those programs that incorporate all the types of web security features as I mentioned in this article. |
